Universal Health Care

Ya know, one of the reasons I didn’t want to vote for Hilary Clinton was that her solution to Universal Health Care was to simply make it a law that individuals without healthcare go ahead and purchase some.  Now here is Obama proposing the same stupid solution.

Why can’t we have the same health care as Canada, Britain, & France?  I recently found out more info about those countries’ health care systems by watching Sicko, by Michael Moore.  Yeah, yeah, some people don’t like Moore and claim he makes stuff up, but there has to be at least some truth to what’s in this movie, and even if just some of it is true, it’s still better than what we have.

I don’t know how we can achieve what those countries are doing, but I’m embarrassed that we’re not already doing it.  Apparently there was a bill in Congress, but the last action on H.R. 676 was in 2006.  I’ll write my Congressman and ask.  I’m sure the response will be amusing.

One Response to “Universal Health Care”

    Follow-up:

I received a boilerplate response from my Representative in Congress, The Honorable Mark Souder. http://souder.house.gov/

When I wrote to him, I expressed my support of H.R. 676 and inquired as to its status.

The response I received starts, “Dear Mr. Tvaroha:
Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to federally funded health care. I appreciate hearing from you.”

Well, I guess I’m not the best writer in the world, but I didn’t think I’d fluxed it up badly enough for him to think I actually *opposed* the bill. He went on for some 1000 words explaining why HE opposes the bill.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve never really felt very represented by Representative Souder.

So I went to The Honorable John Conyers, Jr website (http://conyers.house.gov/), the Representative from the 14th district in Michigan who introduced H.R. 676 on Jan. 26, 2009 (odd that the other info I had showed 2006, but current info shows all actions started and stopped 1/26/09, with referrals to three House Committees). He has a page spelling out more details at http://conyers.house.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Issues.Home&Issue_id=063b74a4-19b9-b4b1-126b-f67f60e05f8c .

I’ve written to a member of Conyers’ staff asking about the progress of the bill. I made extra sure to explain that I support the bill. Let’s see if this response is any better than the “honorable” Mr. Souder’s.
