Passer-by pushes suicide jumper in south China – Yahoo! News.
Chen Fuchao, a man heavily in debt, had been contemplating suicide on a bridge in southern China for hours when a passer-by came up, shook his hand — and pushed him off the ledge.
(Thanks to Kitten for this)
How about this guy? The guy who pushed him — Lai Jiansheng — should be lauded as a hero. He did what some were just thinking — he’s a man of action — a man we can look for to get things done.
Jumpers are nothing more than attention whores. If he seriously wanted to off himself, he should have done something in private — something more respectable. There’s no shortage of ways to kill yourself that don’t involve standing on a bridge for hours.
Jumpers have to go to a lot of trouble to get themselves in position, and to make sure that the police arrive before they do the deed. So instead of climbing a bridge, why not just call a therapist? Because that wouldn’t get them on the 6 o’clock news! They want us to all just stop whatever the hell we were doing, and get hundreds of police in place, because they’ve had a bad day.
Maybe we could start building bridges with sides slanted outward, or maybe even build some sort of spring-loaded mechanisms into the walkways that would launch these selfish bastards over the side before anyone had time to notice. I’m certain that if we did this, the number of attempted jumpers would, … plummet.
